Production managers plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of a manufacturing establishment
or of a production department within a manufacturing establishment, under the direction of a general manager or
other senior manager.
Production Managers Work Conditions
Production managers usually work indoors in factories and offices, often working closely with other
professionals to design and plan the manufacture of new products.

Production Managers Employment Requirements
- Completion of a college or university program in engineering or business administration
- Five to ten years of supervisory experience in operations or manufacturing
Production Managers Duties and Tasks
Production managers may perform the following tasks:
- control the preparation of production records and reports
- control use of production plant facilities through planning of maintenance, the setting of operating hours
and supply of parts and tools
- control, direct and monitor production staff, organize staff selection, training, development and
utilization
- coordinate and direct quality control procedures, and the implementation of safety requirements, and make
sure that statutory requirements are met
- direct research into new and improved production methods and products
- give advice and information on production to other managers and clients
- plan details of production activity in terms of output quality and quantity, cost, time available, and
labor requirements
- plan production policy in consultation with other managers
- prepare work programs to achieve planned production and direct production control activities
- recommend and implement initiatives such as new techniques and products, purchases of new machinery and
changes in staff levels
